WHY CANT I STAY ON THE PLANET?

I am so sorry to say I am having a hard time staying on the planet..only kidding. Alex's school year ended sadly for him the last Friday in May. But with two makeup days available he grabbed them. June was pretty uneventful except as you know I live somewhat in the woods, so on Fathers day I was getting the pool ready for the afternoon and was shocked at what I found in the bottom! Yes a BIG CRAYFISH!! I have very Large hands so he is about 4 inches long. Being the animal lover I am, yes crayfish count! I put him in the pond in our courtyard garden. Its the middle of July and he is still going strong except he now has about 100 roommates, somewhere along the line a frog made happy in our pond. Now the pump for the fountain keeps getting clogged with, well you know what..smushed tadpoles, yuck! So today I am going out to set them all free, to the creek we go. Where did the crayfish come from? The creek is 1/4 mile away from the house up a hilled drive, through a side yard, under a fence and pass the dogs, we will never know.

The rest of my month has been filled with birds laying eggs in my hanging planters, mice being chased into the house by my dach/basset hound setting off complete chaos as the other 7 dogs joined in the fun (he was caught and freed by my wonderful husband), salamanders and I don't even want to know how they got in the kitchen - but basset hounds don't like eating them, I guess they are to squishy, 5 pointed deer strolling down the drive with his two girl friends, turtles, snakes, huge orange frogs climbing the window at night and most of all Voles that spend their nights ruining my lawn, oh and lets not forget the coyote. So hows your summer?

Politics and Fido

...a Latin name meaning "I am faithful." As such it is a terrific name for the average protective and loyal family dog. However, it gets its popularity from a celebrity tie-in. Apparently, Abraham Lincoln, a largely self-educated but very erudite man, named his dog Fido. Americans followed suit in droves, putting the dog name Fido firmly in the top 20 names. Lincoln’s choice of Fido for his dog’s name was perfectly logical. Fido is the Latin for faithful, which when dealing with any pet dog is entirely appropriate
