Using good peoples hearts for profit
The ad in the paper said "two Newfies, free to good home, would like to keep them together, we don't want to send to shelter" As you know we have been trying to get our Newfie a playmate, this seemed like a good idea. Even though we only wanted one, there was enough room in our home and lives for two. After making initial contact and working out the details or so we thought for getting together the week after Halloween. Two days before Halloween we get a frantic call from the Newfie people, you must take them now or , they will be shot!" Yikes I thought. But I have no where to put them and I am having 100 guests for a party tomorrow. Its not looking good. I scattered, and regrouped, frantically calling people looking for temporary housing for these two animals. As the day progressed with the help of our awesome rescue leader I started to see holes in their story. First they weren't sure how old the one dog was 3, 5 maybe 7. OK then how much does it weigh, 65, 80 finally 100 pounds...hmmm I asked do you have a vet I can call to see if they are up to date with shots? Hmmm no vet, OK let me call you back. The story gets better. The one dog had a puppy that morning, so now I need to take three dogs, or they will kill them...OK .I finally find space at a local shelter. I call the Newfie people, bring me the dogs but bring them to my vet I need to have them looked at..oh and one more thing the Newfie Breeder wanna-be says, there is a ten week puppy that can't be separated from the group, OK now I am up to 4 dogs. OK bring that puppy too..but while they are talking I am doing the math a 10 week old and a new born puppy, doesn't add up, dogs don't have puppies one right after the other. I am becoming more cautious about these people but worrying more about these animals. Now we are set and we get one last phone call. Bad hips,OK and you were breeding this dog? OK, no problem. "$1000.00 for all the dogs cash" I am sorry I didn't catch that very last part. Yes, they wanted $1000.00 for the dogs after all the were breeder dogs. What they really were, were probably con people, the dogs may have even been stolen, the dogs may have never really existed. But what they mostly were people preying on the good naturedness of animal lovers. The end of the story, they hung up when I hesitated, did not answer when I recalled and after three week's have never heard from them again. Lesson learned.I am not as smart as I thought I was

Politics and Fido
...a Latin name meaning "I am faithful." As such it is a terrific name for the average protective and loyal family dog. However, it gets its popularity from a celebrity tie-in. Apparently, Abraham Lincoln, a largely self-educated but very erudite man, named his dog Fido. Americans followed suit in droves, putting the dog name Fido firmly in the top 20 names. Lincoln’s choice of Fido for his dog’s name was perfectly logical. Fido is the Latin for faithful, which when dealing with any pet dog is entirely appropriate
