Favorite Things Snow and Doughnuts and Baseball

So its been awhile since the first snow but its been awhile since I have posted. The boys all trickled in for a week long visit for Christmas. Christmas Eve morning came with a fresh blanket of snow and what better time would it be to reinstate a tradition of fresh hot doughnuts to celebrate the first snow. It wasn't the first snow but it was an exciting day just the same and we were all together a yearly rarity as the boys, now men live all over the country.
Julius recently having taken up baseball wanted desparately to go outside in the frigid temperatures and snow to throw the baseball around. Geoff being the good and kind spirit finally gave into Julius pleas to toss the ball around.
Dave and I had decided to run a few last minute errands. As we returned home soaking in the peacefulness of the moment, big snow flakes were falling the kind that sit on your nose and eyelashes the woods had a hushed silence, we saw Geoff standing at the top of the driveway.
"Julius got hurt." he continued on, "He has a black eye, he was hit by a baseball.", First question out of my mouth was is his cheek bone OK and who threw the ball, praying like crazy that it wasn't Dan our lefty who had a fast ball at times that could reach in the low 90's. Now I knew Dan would never throw that fast to anyone as inexperienced as Julius but..
It had been Geoff it was a relief on one hand but I felt horrible for Geoff on the other. Oh Julius's eye had a fairly large bruise however his ego had been left intact. Good spirited as he is he was ready to go out and throw some more.
Julius's take on the moment simple, he says "you cannot look up for a baseball when it is grey and snowing."

Politics and Fido

...a Latin name meaning "I am faithful." As such it is a terrific name for the average protective and loyal family dog. However, it gets its popularity from a celebrity tie-in. Apparently, Abraham Lincoln, a largely self-educated but very erudite man, named his dog Fido. Americans followed suit in droves, putting the dog name Fido firmly in the top 20 names. Lincoln’s choice of Fido for his dog’s name was perfectly logical. Fido is the Latin for faithful, which when dealing with any pet dog is entirely appropriate
