Its been pretty quiet here this past week. David was traveling and the weather has been good. We have been doing the same old thing as everyone else, putting mulch down, and discovering we have at least a dozen yellow jacket nests.
But with the help of GOOGLE I have learned about my enemy in detail.
Did you know a yellow jacket can consume more the a hundred flies a day? Hungry pests aren't they. And we all know with 8 dogs I have alot of flies.
Did you know that yellow jackets are highly aggressive in August and have no pattern for attacking?
Did you know that they die after the first frost and I am probably better left to waiting for the first frost.
Did you know they like to build their underground nests in abandoned rodent holes?
Did you know mice like to build their nests under bird feeders? Bet you didn't know I had a bird feeder too? Bet you had no idea I removed the bird feeder, huge mistake...left abandoned rodent holes and no birds to eat the June Beatles which in turn ate my beautiful roses. Solution..new bird feeder up and running, but away from the pets and house but close enough to my garden to keep the bugs away. My roses are healing.
Tonight although will end their reign of terror. I have found a recipe of dish washing detergent and water that when poured into yellow jacket holes, will kill them, but it has to be dark and it was to be cool out and tonight will be both.
If that doesn't work then of course it is back to the Sevin.
I think that this has been Jazz's problems this summer, she keeps getting stung on her butt. It turns out where she does her business is where there is a nest and my guess is the yellow jackets don't like her raining on their parade and they sting her. Frightening as this might seem she continues to go to the same spot over and over again. Which leaves me wondering if Labradors are really as smart as people think they are, or does Jazz have bad luck.
My life as a mom of two Labradors, a basset hound, a dachsund/basset mix,a newfoundland, a teacup Pekignese, and a wonderful 15 year old son. This is how I survive by laughing, loving and doing laundry. These are my rescues/family and this is my story.

Politics and Fido
...a Latin name meaning "I am faithful." As such it is a terrific name for the average protective and loyal family dog. However, it gets its popularity from a celebrity tie-in. Apparently, Abraham Lincoln, a largely self-educated but very erudite man, named his dog Fido. Americans followed suit in droves, putting the dog name Fido firmly in the top 20 names. Lincoln’s choice of Fido for his dog’s name was perfectly logical. Fido is the Latin for faithful, which when dealing with any pet dog is entirely appropriate
